Being a mommy and everything that has to do with babies plus taking proper care of them used to be new to me, nowadays with Liam I am a lot more comfortable in doing things as it is my second time. During my pregnancy I used to read a lot of magazines and blogs which would talk about items that you ‘must have’ for your little one and were ‘necessary’. Being a mommy of an 4,5 month old I definitely have my favourites, but there are definitely items that are remained untouched. In today’s article I will mention MY musthaves for a newborn baby and what I thought was very usefully during the newborn period.
Besides the regular items like diapers and bottles, there sure is a difference between all of them. My favourite diaper brand Lillydoo is not available in stores but they are online. I have already written an article about the diapers here , but I can’t stop mentioning how great they are similar priced to the regular Pampers diapers. And I love the cute prints that they provide ( and the shipping of course). They also provide a free sample package to test out their diapers, which is a definitely a pro for me!
One of my biggest worries of being a newborn mom is the constant worrying about cot death. I was so scared that she would turn in her sleep and not being able to hear her. However the Aerosleep topper would take away my worries as the topper is breathable, and even when they turn they are able to breathe through it. These toppers are a bit pricey but a well spend investment, and you can always sell them when not needed anymore since they are washable.
I used to read a lot of negative comments from mothers that didn’t use hydro cloths and would hardly use them. However I still bought a bunch of them (before reading those articles) , and eventually ended up using all of them. They are perfect for everything! The smaller ones are amazing for washing, cleaning up the face after reflux ( which my baby suffered from), and the bigger ones are perfect for drying them after baths and to swaddle. I personally like mine with cture prints, like this star print cloth from Upstream so the baby had something to look at while using them.
NAIF baby products
As a mother you want the best for your child. Therefore I spend a lot of time finding out which baby products are best, in the way that they contain least chemicals as possible. While searching I stumbled upon the brand NAIF which I had never heard of before. I love this brand because it is a green brand and the cottonseed smell of the products is amazing. I personally love the bath oil and baby oil the most because I use it most often, but the diaper crème is also amazing for my little girls bum.
Swaddles and sleeping bags
As my little girl was born on the last day of March the weather was still kind of chilly, and since she was a newborn she needed to keep warm. Therefore swaddles and sleeping bags where my must haves during the first few months. I specifically went for cute prints as the baby would be photographed a lot by our visiting family and friends, which would make the pictures even cuter. This egg sleeping bag is one of my faves and was a nice gift by the Mongoose webshop.
The last and far most my number 1 musthave, is the baby swing. Especially when being a new time mom you have no idea how much time and attention a newborn needs from you. I’m not joking when I see that you aren’t likely to pee whenever you want anymore, because that time is over for the coming few months. In order to get some things done around the house, or to have some time for yourself I highly recommend a baby swing. I have the my little world Dreamday swing which has music and 6 different motions to rock your baby. A baby swing has been a life saver as it allowed me to get at least 5 minutes to spend on myself or to go to the bathroom without having to worry about the baby.
Even though I have used a lot of products over the last few months, these items were definitely my must have items to use for the first months. I can’t believe how fast the last 5 months have gone by and how my body looks exactly the same as before pregnancy, I don’t even have stretchmarks!
For all the visiting momma’s, let me know which items you like best and which were useful during your pregnancy. The more opinions, the better 🙂
